A Fool For Love marriage event summary

April 5, 2011

This past Friday, April 1, was Northstar’s first (hopefully annual) marriage event aptly titled A Fool for Love. The evening started with delicious coffee and teas from Lucie Monroe’s and delicious cupcakes provided by Bloom Cupcakery. Over 30 couples participated.

Couples first watched a hilarious video spoof on a husband attempting to help his wife with dinner. (watch below) Following the video was a version of the Newlywed Game Show. We called it the Trulywed Game.

Four couples of varying years of wedded bliss competed for the prize of the “intimacy basket.” There was lots of laughter with questions like: “What animal would your mother in law be?” and “Where was your first date?” (which some had a hard time answering).

Another video followed and can be found below. This one was a humorous take on communication in marriage complete with fake mullets.

The final activity for the evening was a panel of experienced married couples offering advice on many aspects of marriage. Some key nuggets of information were: being a family- centered home not a child-centered home, scheduling talk time with your spouse, and making God the most important relationship.

Although there was much laughter, the wealth of information and encouragement from the evening was priceless. Couples ended the seminar cuddled up together before God praying over their relationship and families. It was obvious from the amount of handholding and secret smiles from exiting couples that the event was a success.
