ReVerb Leader Spotlight – Joe Holman

March 22, 2017

Joe Holman was born and raised in Gastonia, North Carolina, right outside of Charlotte. Currently, Joe is finishing up his last semester as an engineering student at Virginia Tech and is also on staff as an intern here at Northstar.

In May, Joe will be woefully leaving Blacksburg to start his job as a Technical Sales Engineer in Greenville, South Carolina. He loves competition and the outdoors, whether it’s fishing, golfing, or just finding new things to win at, games are a constant in his life.

Why are you involved in youth ministry?
I became involved three years ago with Northstar as a youth leader. When I was growing up God truly blessed me with role models that were strong “manly” men of Christ. I looked up to these men and they helped me stay on a path that was fixated on Christ and not the vices of the world. A few years ago, I felt the calling to lead young men for Christ and Reverb has been that opportunity.

How were you impacted as a young person for Jesus?
I was blessed with amazing parents who really encouraged and challenged me, along with coaches and teachers pouring into me daily, I got to experience great community throughout Middle and High School.

What has impacted you during your time serving?
Being able to see students grow over a three-year span is almost overwhelming and definitely exciting. Seeing certain students grow into strong leaders or seeing others seek earnestly God’s will is so powerful, I can’t be more amazed with Gods work in these students.

What would you say to those who are interested in getting involved?
To get involved is a big leap. You can no longer be in the background and you won’t go unnoticed. However, it is such a great risk that I believe God will use to shape your life. If you have a desire to serve, find your passion and go for it.

How would you encourage young people to get involved?
If you want to get involved it is important to look at what your passionate about. It may be starting a new club at school and using your influence to love your classmates. At church, there are great ways to serve whether in children’s ministry or helping setup/teardown on Sundays. God uses our servant hearts to bring glory to him so don’t shy away from taking a chance.

_______________

Joe is one of the most servant hearted men you will ever meet. Take a second and meet him.
