GAP – VT Big Event Recap

Blog, GAP

Last Saturday, 11 members of Northstar GAP were able to participate in Virginia Tech’s Big Event! We met at the Drillfield at about 9:30, and by 10:30 we were off to Christiansburg for our project.

We arrived at the neighborhood of Walnut Run in Christiansburg, and quickly got to work. One group helped mulch the flowerbeds around one the resident’s homes, while the others set out to help clean up around the neighborhood. There was a system of trails weaving through the community, and we spent around two hours cleaning up trash, brush, and other debris from the trails, playgrounds, and other open spaces that we found.

After a delicious lunch of Little Caesar’s pizza (graciously provided by our host), we finished off the day of work by cleaning up and then staining the deck of one of the residents. We then stopped by Gardner’s on the way home for some frozen refreshment.

Overall it was a great day to spend working together with friends! The weather was beautiful and we really felt that we were able to bless the community by serving them. We made sure to let our hosts know where we from, and were also able to invite them to church!
