Northstar reaches the nations with a local group!

What’s important about the Holiday Missions Offering? So glad you asked! It’s a crucial part of the life of Northstar Church, as it focuses on sharing the hope and love of Jesus Christ within our community and throughout the world! For a full list of Northstar supported missions, click here.

One of our supported ministries, International Students, Inc., is headed up by Bob Jackson, Northstar’s founding pastor, and his wife, Sandra. ISI is an outreach to international students, visiting scholars, and their families at Virginia Tech. It is centered on involving internationals in Bible studies, local church activities, women’s activities, retreats, English conversation groups, conferences, and recreational events. The goal of ISI is to see internationals come to understand the gospel message and become followers of Jesus Christ.

The Jacksons share, “We so appreciate the partnership with Northstar Church in reaching internationals for Christ! We’ve had several people come to Christ this year. We’ve seen people who had no concept of God or Jesus consistently attend one of our three Bible studies this year.” Sandra continues, “It’s exciting to sit in a Bible study and hear a person from China read the Bible for the first time!”

A team of volunteers, including Northstar’s Jillian and Kirkland Broadwell and Steven Paul, join the Jacksons to plan semester outreach, weekly Sunday evening Bible studies, retreats, leadership conferences, and numerous activities, such as snow tubing, hiking, ice skating, and shopping.

The Jacksons share that funds given from the HMO allow their budget to sustain these weekly activities, as well as provide for the retreats and scholarships for conferences. It helps them get through the “lean months” of giving, as well. One particular activity that this mission will help fund is their monthly “Night of the Nations,” where 50-80 participants come together for food, conversations, and an inspirational Christian speaker.

The HMO is vital to feed hungry international VT students, both food and the Word of God! For more information about this ministry, please contact Bob Jackson, Campus Team Leader, or Sandra Jackson, Campus Staff.

Thank you, Northstar Church, for being the church!
