Northstar is beginning our second Stephen Ministers Training this fall and is looking for church members who are interested in being part of this care ministry team.
Stephen Ministry is a lay care giving ministry, equipping lay people to provide confidential, one-to-one Christian care to individuals within the congregation and community who are experiencing difficulties in their lives. It is a great way of extending Christ’s love and support to those who are hurting and in need of someone to come alongside of them.
The initial training is approximately 30 hours of basic Christian care giving skills. The SM Training will be held on Wednesday evenings from 6:30p.m. to 9:00p.m. beginning October 2nd. Due to the resources involved in this ministry, there is a 2 year commitment.
Afterwards, Stephen Ministers receive ongoing group supervision and are carefully matched with care receivers by gender and pertinent life experiences. Your time commitment after the training would entail meeting with one care receiver a week for approximately one hour and attending the bi-monthly group supervision sessions held on Sunday mornings.
